I did a “Little 5″ on Saturday that consisted of calf raise, MedX abdominal, Thick Bar curl, Tricep pressdown, and Thick Bar wrist flexion/wrist extension.

John and Arienne Cripps (from Canada) dropped by and each went through a Big 5 workout. They normally train at John Little’s Nautilus North. I have to give props to John Little because their metabolic condition was unbelievable. With almost no rest between sets, they recovered normal breathing within 30 seconds of the end of the workout.

Afterwords, we drove to Greenville for my lecture/booksigning at Barnes & Noble. We had an awesome standing-room only crowd and sold out the store’s copies of BBS. Jimmy Moore (of www.livinlavidalowcarb.com) was in the crowd and I got him to tell his inspiring story of fat loss. I also got Dr. Cripps to speak about his pending graduate work with Dr. Tim Noakes which will involve replicating Arthur Jones’ West Point project with an updated methods to incorporate lower volume and frequency. Thanks to all the UE clients, friends and BBS enthusiasts who showed up.

Now post your WOW’s. Also, check out Blain’s video WOW posted on his website. Simply click on his name to go to his site.

BODY BY SCIENCE

In this installment of the Body By Science video series, Dr. McGuff explains some of the benefits of proper strength training as it pertains to enhanced functional ability and even longevity. In addition, he relates how and why proper high-intensity strength training might not be for everyone. Here is the link to the new video:

Today I did a Big 5 workout. I will not give weights or TUL as I had the entire workout video-recorded. I will send the material to John Little who can hopefully apply some of his film editing expertise. Also, I will send a video tour of Ultimate Exercise and a video of my wife’s Big 4 workout that she does once every 14 days.
Workout today was Leg Press, Compound Row, Chest Press, Pulldown and Overhead Press.

Post your WOW’s. And when your done, check out Keith Norris’ initial review of BBS at www.theorytopractice.wordpress.com.

Chris Highcock at Conditioning Research has posted his interview with me at his blog www.conditioningresearch.blogspot.com. He did an excellent job. Check it out.

Today’s WOW was performed at 6am before going in to work a day shift in the ER. When I was in high school I used to perform my workouts between 5:30 and 6:00 am before school. I forgot how much I loved working out early. Did Back and Chest. I did not do a big five/little five as discussed. I will hold off on a Big 5 until I am able to video record it for this website. Refer back to Feb 22 WOW for comparison.

Nautilus Pullover with SS retrofits- 200/1:29 (1 second longer TUL…whoopie!)
Pulldown (SS systems without cam) stage reps 172.5, 122.5, 102.5- total TUL=1:18
MedX row with SS retrofit- 384/1:30
MedX chest press-384/1:30, top range partial 184/1:21
Elapsed Time: 7:15

Felt good at work despite a brutally busy shift.

On March 26th my podcast interview with Jimmy Moore at www.livinlavidalowcarb.com will be available. It will be podcast #239. Check it out.

In addition to my Indianapolis appearance with Bo Railey (www.exerciseinc.com), I have two more scheduled in June. I will be at Doug Holland’s facility in Shreveport, LA on June 6th. Then I will be at Hugh Hines’ facility in Pearland, TX (Houston) on June the 15th.

The health beat reporter from the San Antonio Express-News has requested a copy of Body by Science and will be conducting an interview with me in the near future.

As more details become available, I will update them here.

At Ultimate Exercise the female clients significantly outnumber our male clients. To some extent, I believe this is due to our strict privacy policy that only allows 1 client into the training area at a time. However, I also believe that women are particularly thrilled to participate in a fitness activity that actually works.

Body by Science principles are particularly important for women BECAUSE they naturally possess less muscle mass. Because of their smaller muscle mass, the slippery slope that leads to accumulation of body fat and the metabolic syndrome occurs earlier and more aggressively. Conversely, an exercise protocol that turns this process around is even more critical for women.

With this in mind, I have posted an article with the same title as the blog post in the articles section of this web page. Please check it out. Feel free to post comments/questions to this blog post. Please forward this article to as many women as you can. This is information that desperately needs to get out.

I have the good fortune to train Dr. John Cripps and his wife Arienne at our facility in Bracebridge, Ontario (Nautilus North Strength & Fitness Centre). Right from their first workout they fully grasped the principles of high-intensity training and both are of a scientific mind set. Over the course of the past three years we have discussed exercise (the realities versus the fitness industry) and I have benefitted from John Cripps’ scientific and medical insights. As both John and Arienne are accomplished tandem cyclists I thought readers of Body By Science would appreciate learning first-hand of the “aerobic” benefits that their high-intensity workouts (performed once a week or less) have stimulated. Dr. Cripps has written a very interesting article which is now featured in our “Articles” section. The link to this article is:
